I recently wrote a post here concerning the negative impact "Extreme Makeover" shows have on the culture of beauty. I used as an example the TV series known as "Bridalplasty," the main one on the E channel that was promoted as "the only show where the winner gets cut!" Brides-to-be competed for any plastic surgery procedure and also the results were displayed on the last episode. The content I wrote stimulated a vigorous conversation on several websites. Both women and men shared their thoughts about the challenges inherent in defining beauty within our present culture. So, I decided to write this piece to begin another conversation. I want to give alternative solutions to those implied by "Extreme Makeover" shows, solutions based on what real women tell me really make them feel and look attractive from the inside out.
The tips below were collected from countless interviews I held with women from all walks of life; from women whose beauty was clearly a sizable part of their identity (models, actors and public figures) to everyday women to whom beauty didn’t play an especially substantial role in their lives. I asked them all the same question, "What may be the one piece of guidance you’d give by what makes you look and feel your finest?" Listed here are the ideas that came up most often.
1. Confidence - The most frequent comment I heard from the ladies I interviewed was that beauty involved confidence. This was true across any age and continents. Women whose looks played a large role in their lives -e.g. models, actresses and women in media — associated feeling attractive to times when they felt most self assured. Actresses explained they increased their chances of booking work when they could carry off an air of confidence no matter what they looked like. Models said their success wasn’t about being the prettiest, since each model is, but about how exactly poised they appeared. Therefore it appears for most women at all ages. Holding your head up high, with self-confidence has become the number one quality that women say results in feeling and looking gorgeous at all ages.
2. Flexibility - Girls that can reinvent their ‘look’ and let go of rigid images of beauty easier feel attractive as they age. Tension is not an attractive feature and holding on (or holding back) makes you appear tight. Sensuality is about flexibility, openness and letting go. Letting go of a former self-image does not mean neglecting yourself. It is like learning to get pleasure from walking when you may have jogged inside the past or taking yoga in place of spin class. A flexible attitude toward beauty leads to the capacity to adjust your fashion sense and is key to enjoying how you look at any age.
3. A Radiant Smile - A ladies smile is reported as the single most essential physical feature that leads to being viewed as attractive. Women say it conveys their inner beauty. It lets other people see the things they feel. And at time once they don’t feel fantastic, putting on a grin additional usually leads to feeling superior. Everyone knows women who draw positive attention toward themselves because of their very good smiles. Think of a baby’s smile. Does anything bring extra pleasure to the eyes of other people than that spontaneous toothless grin? Women talk about utilizing their smiles to bring what they feel inside to their exterior no matter their age. A generous smile is the greatest facelift you may have. Even greater, it is totally free and natural.
4. Concentrate on What You’ve, Not on What You Don’t -The sum is not usually greater than its parts. Sounds counter-intuitive, but when it comes to feeling lovely it is important to keep this in mind. Women who focus on features that like (rather criticize what they lack) and use them to serve their self-image may feel attractive. It really is well known within the fashion industry that some models are branded for their amazing legs or long necks. Occasionally only their hands or feet are thought marketable material. They use these assets to feel wonderful. Check out yourself and select one feature you prefer and embellish it. Delicate wrists? Wear an eye-catching watch. Thick hair? A stylish headband or jeweled clip can draw attention where you want it. Very good posture? Stand tall making everything else about you appear more appealing.
For brides seeking to be gorgeous on the wedding day and for women who want to look fantastic everyday, these suggestions will probably be worth contemplating just before undergoing a cosmetic intervention or a serious makeover. These are real, tangible methods to take beauty out of the hands of other people and back into our own. Let me know if these pointers (or other people) work for you. Let’s continue the conversation about how exactly to define beauty on our terms.
